"The European leg of the IBA Tour has finished. The E5 in marketing parlance. The waves were surprisingly good, but still crap. The Australians conducted themselves respectably, but still lost (except for Dave Winchester, who won). After watching several weeks worth of what would could only be described as grovelling it is time to pose the question: who’s got style?
The editorial team spent an evening watching the live web feed from the Peniche event, Portugal. The waves were a weak two- to three-feet but Dave Winchester was still surfing with style. Bodyboarding should, by rights, look hideous in those conditions, but here was Winny linking moves, finding power in the pocket and throwing spray. Other competitors looked so far removed from our ideals of style that it might have been another sport. Junky ARSs that were only recognisable by the judges’ scorecards and reverses that looked like frogs spinning on electrified lily-pads.
Yes, we all grew up surfing different waves. Yes, there should be variations on good style within bodyboarding. Yes, it's only subjective to a point.
Style. Discuss."
